Persistent Organic Pollutants

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs):

Persistent organic pollutants came to light in 1962 with the publication of Rachel Carson’s book “Silent Spring” that documented the environmental impacts of widespread use pesticides, particularly DDT. Other highly-toxic POPs include Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs), and Organochlorine Pesticides (OCs).
